He was born on October 25, 1772 in Pont-à-Mousson, Lorraine, eastern France.
General of the First French Empire, he was named Grand Marshal of the Palace by Napoleon.
He was killed on May 23, 1813 in Niedermackersdorf, near Görlitz, Silesia
